說明：採掘前，先用鑽槍鑽洞，釋放煤層瓦斯、煤壓。瓦斯突出常造成礦災，是礦工死亡主要原因之一。

說明：大部分坑道是極狹窄、暗黑的，需帶著磺火燈（電石燈）照明。電士，白色，加些水後會發熱，可悶香蕉催熟。銅製的瓦斯燈放入電土加水後，細孔中放出煤氣體，可當提燈。
